Facebook Dislike Button A Scam

A new Facebook scam is making the rounds, and it’s taking advantage of a non-existent Facebook feature many users desire: the dislike button.

There is no such thing as an official Facebook dislike button. Facebook officials have stated that they may release a dislike button in the future but that has not been done at this time.

If customers see a status update containing the message “I just got the Dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!” or “Get the official DISLIKE button now” followed by a link, they should know that it is a scam aimed at obtaining their personal information.

If you click on the link, you’ll directed to an elaborate Facebook dislike button “install” page (if the dislike button were real, installation would not be necessary). If you follow the instructions, you’ll be asked to give the app permission to run, after which you’ll be asked to complete a survey, similar to the surveys found in many other scams on Facebook.

We advise customers not to click on suspicious links on Facebook, especially if they promise something that sounds impossible or unlikely. If a customer has been a victim of the scam, they can remove the offending app(s) from their Facebook profile; in addition, they should remove the related message from their status, News Feed, and their Likes and Interests in the “Edit my Profile” menu.
